Job Description
An office with a window on the world
When it comes to a workplace, there’s none more exciting and diverse than our world – and a career at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office is the perfect way to experience it. We work on everything from climate change, to forced marriages, to counter terrorism – and our Executive Assistants are vitally important in supporting that work, both here in the UK and overseas.
Executive Assistants start with us in London but most go on to spend parts of their careers overseas, on a series of 2 to 3-year postings. These postings can include working as a Personal Assistant to the Deputy Head of Mission or working in a political section, and there is usually an element of choice over which country Executive Assistants are based in.
As you can imagine, there is the chance to use your existing language skills when posted overseas. As are the possibilities for career development. Each posting provides opportunities to take on challenges of greater complexity and to be given more individual responsibility for them. At the same time, access to a wide range of training and support is always available to help you meet these new challenges in full confidence.
A role as an Executive Assistant offers you the chance during your career to use your language skills in support of work of national and commercial importance. To do that you’ll also need at least 5 GCSEs, or equivalent, including English Language and Maths, and good administration and typing skills, including experience of word processing and spreadsheet packages.
