The role: Decision Support Engineering Analyst Intern, Summer 2012
At Google, data drives all of our decision-making. Quantitative Analysts work all across the organization to help shape Google's business and technical strategies by processing, analyzing and interpreting huge data sets. Using analytical rigor and statistical methods, you mine through data to identify opportunities for Google and our clients to operate more efficiently, from enhancing advertising efficacy to network infrastructure optimization to studying user behavior. As an analyst, you do more than just crunch the numbers. You work with Engineers, Product Managers, Sales Associates and Marketing teams to adjust Google's practices according to your findings. Identifying the problem is only half the job; you also figure out the solution.
Responsibilities:

* Provide research on topics including Google's business model and novel search techniques.
* Produce quantitative and qualitative modeling of business dynamics, user behavior, etc.
* Identify areas for further investigation as well as creating innovative methods of analysis.

Minimum Qualifications:

* BS degree in a discipline involving experimental design and quantitative analysis of experimental data, such as: Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics, or Biostatistics.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Currently pursing a MS or PhD in statistics, computer science, mathematics, economics, biostatistics, psychology, sociology, physics, operations research or another discipline involving experimental design and quantitative analysis of experimental data.
* Experience with statistical data analysis such as linear models, multivariate analysis, stochastic models, and sampling methods.
* Experience using technology to work efficiently with datasets such as scripting, Python, statistical software packages (R, S-Plus, SAS or similar.
* UNIX/Linux experience.
* Strong track record of developing intellectual capital such as published works.
