Messaging Advisor (f/m)
Location: Vienna or Innsbruck

Messaging Advisor will work as part of the Messaging Team at the IO. The role of the team is to lead on generating content of consistent quality that demonstrates SOS values for internal and external use and to provide advice to various stakeholders across the organisation on external communications. The Messaging Team plays an integral role in helping the entire organisation to achieve its objectives, supporting fundraising and shaping the organisation’s public image.

Tasks and Responsibilities:
• Writing and editing texts in English for internal and external publications, online media, speeches, presentations, media relations and campaigns for diverse audiences
• Developing concepts, content ideas for communications materials, campaigns and stories
• Evaluating story ideas developed by the organisation’s network of correspondents and ensuring best possible use of material generated
• Developing and regularly updating the organisation’s key messages, ensuring that various departments and teams know how to implement them
• Establishing and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders in different countries across the world and working in multidisciplinary teams
• Coordinating information sharing and communications in emergency and crisis situations between the IO and affected country or region
• Providing counsel to clients and internal stakeholders with regard to positioning and content appropriateness
• Maintaining strong brand focus and ensuring content is consistent with brand values
• Interpreting complex policy statements for non-specialist audiences
• Managing production of publications for external audiences

• Excellent writing skills in a variety of styles – adequate university degree, trainings
• Strong editorial skills: at least 5 years’ experience in an editorial team/agency and/or as an independent copy writer
• written and spoken English required;
• Experience in integrated communications
• International experience within a large organisation essential
• Project management skills
• Strong communications and relationship building skills
• Ability to work under pressure and in crisis situations
• Ability to take initiative and prioritise workload as required
• Coaching and training abilities an advantage
• Social media/digital skills an advantage
