The Role

Bloomberg New Energy Finance is the world’s leading provider of industry information and analysis to investors, corporations and governments in clean energy, low carbon technologies and the carbon markets. Our dedicated global network of analysts are continuously monitoring technology market changes, deal flow and financial activity allowing instantaneous transparency into the clean energy and carbon markets and understanding of the fundamental economic drivers of these industries. Through our Carbon Markets division we also provide market-leading analysis and research for the global carbon markets. This includes analysis, price forecasting, consultancy and risk management.

We are seeking talented, highly-motivated individuals to join our carbon markets analysis team. Specifically, we are seeking individuals with a background in one or more of the following: economics, statistics or a similarly quantitative subject. The main purpose of the role is to build an understanding of the dynamics of the traded carbon markets and their relationships to other energy commodities. The successful candidate will undertake detailed analysis on carbon market trading dynamics. By building fundamentals based economic and financial models, doing statistical analysis of prices and market behavior, and analyzing long term supply and demand fundamentals, our teams explore how carbon prices interact over the short and medium term with commodity and equity markets. Findings are communicated in a clear and insightful manner, through research notes, reports and presentations. The ability to discuss with and present results to clients is an important part of the role.

Qualifications

-Post-graduate level degree preferred in a numerate subject
-Experience of analysis within a trading environment preferred, particularly energy or carbon commodities
-Strong working knowledge of finance, including public markets, mergers and acquisitions, venture capital and project finance
-Able to assimilate and assess new and highly technical information
-Exceptional quantitative skills, comfort with financial databases, corporate and market statistics among other aspects of financial analysis and consulting
-Ability to cut through the noise of large quantities of data, and to extract and analyze key patterns
-Exceptional communication skills and professionalism
-Must act as a thought-leader and self-starter, have a high work-rate, ability to work on parallel tasks and rigorous attention to detail
-Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and good working knowledge of Microsoft Word
-Experience with statistical software packages desirable
