The Role

At Personio we are on the amazing journey of becoming the leading HR Platform in Europe!

The real story for us begins by impacting people on a global scale every day. By simplifying and automating thousands of processes across human resource management, payroll and recruiting, we are impacting more than 400.000 people. 

You will join our Work Management squad, responsible for an important part of the Personio Workflows and Automation (PWA), which takes care of all tasks, notifications, and reminders a user will be able to manage in the platform. The teams enable the users to organize their work and have the main space to organize themselves and work from without constantly having to navigate through different pages. The PWA team automates people workflows across the employee lifecycle across different tools and teams, enabling HR to go beyond HR and win back valuable time through automation, time that can then be spent on and with people. 

We are a cross-functional group of engineers, designers, and product managers from many nationalities and backgrounds, spread across different locations, and we continue to grow in 2023. Join us and help us shape the People Workflow Automation journey for Personio — we are just getting started!

About the role:

  • You will write efficient, performant, and extensible code using the right tools and patterns to implement the functionalities that add value to our customers

  • You will identify, document, and communicate technical improvements within the team domain and its stakeholders

  • You will contribute to the creation of internal engineering standards

  • You will coach and mentor more junior team members

  • You will drive engineering team initiatives

  • You will participate in functional case interviews 


How we work:

  • We are a product company so our teams are organized in a mission-based cross-functional fashion. You will work with other Backend Engineers, Frontend Engineers, a Designer, a Product Manager and an Engineering Manager on one product vertical of our HR Management & Recruiting software.

  • We have a “you built it, you run it” attitude and CI/CD is our second nature - we use AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and GitLab to implement it!




What you need to succeed

What skills you should bring: 

  • 5+ years of software development experience with the JVM environment. (Good knowledge of Kotlin is advantageous)

  • Experience using Spring Boot in a microservice environment

  • Track record of working in an agile setup using continuous deployment and delivery

  • Experience with event driven architectures, domain driven design and eventual consistency

  • Experience and joy in embracing a continuous knowledge sharing approach within the team

  • Experience with containerisation and container orchestration (Docker and Kubernetes preferred) in a cloud environment (AWS preferred) 

  • Strong written and spoken English (level C1 on the CEFR scale)

  • You are located in a country where we have an office (Spain, Germany, UK, Ireland, Netherlands) OR interested in a remote opportunity in one of those countries. 

Experience with the following is a bonus, not a must have:

  • Experience in building publicly available APIs & services

  • Experience in building SDKs and frameworks to streamline the internal usage of services

  • Integrate with other platforms and services in a scaling way

  • Experience in building marketplaces, partner platforms and scaling them up
