    Are you an experienced teacher of English language acquisition who would like to work in a bilingual and International IB World School? Are you interested in a parttime/fulltime job in the north of the Netherlands? We have an opportunity for a qualified teacher from August 2022.

    Your qualities

    We have an opportunity for a qualified* teacher of English Language Acquisition to IB Middle Years students in the Maartenscollege (0,5 fte) and/or the International School Groningen (0,5 fte).

    *We are only able to consider qualified teachers with a European (or equivalent) teaching qualification for the subject as recognised by the Dutch Government (a DUO recognition).

    These two sister schools together form one IB World School and share the same building and the same facilities. The Maartenscollege offers bilingual education to over 800 national (mainly Dutch) students while the International School Groningen provides an English language education to approximately 200 international students. All departments run the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme in lower Secondary.

    The position is initially for one year, with potential to add a second year and then a permanent contract.

    The ideal candidate would demonstrate the following qualities:

    • English language skills at native speaker level or equivalent;

    • Experience and affinity with the lower Secondary age range;

    • Experience and expertise in Language Acquisition, with an understanding of Content and Language Integrated Teaching (CLIL);

    • Ability to work well with larger classes as well as smaller groups;

    • Affinity with the International Baccalaureate approaches to teaching and learning, including the practice of student assessment on four criteria based on rubrics.

    Whilst it is not necessary to be fluent in Dutch in this bilingual environment it would help to speak some Dutch to help you integrate into a mainly Dutch faculty.

    Description of School

    The International School Groningen is located in Haren, just south of the city of Groningen in the Netherlands. The International School Groningen provides a comprehensive educational programme to approximately 200 students aged between 11 and 18. The school offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme to the first five years (age 11-16), followed by the Diploma Programme in the final two years (age 16-18). The International School is a section of the larger Dutch Secondary School, the Maartenscollege.

    The schools are themselves part of a larger group of schools: the Stichting Carmelcollege. School’s Website: [ Link removed ]

    What we can offer you

    The size of the appointment is 0,8 – 1,0 fte, temporarily with potential to become permanent. Start Date: August 1st 2022
    Salary: scale LB according to the collective bargaining agreement called ‘CAO VO’, maximum 4.366 euro gross per month for a full-time position.
    You will receive a moving allowance of up to € 2.500, settling in allowance of approximately € 5.000, 6% bonus in December, 8% bonus in May, pension arrangement, personal budget of 50 hours per year for extra leave or task reduction, work-related travel reimbursement, discount for medical insurance and up to one full year of paid sick leave.

    In addition, part of the salary above a minimum threshold (up to 30% of total salary) remains tax-free for foreign hires during the first five years of employment in the Netherlands minus any periods you might have previously worked or resided in the Netherlands.

    We offer a supportive and dynamic team of teachers and a well-resourced working environment. We offer the opportunity to receive high quality professional development and to join a network of IB teachers working in over 2500 schools around the world. This is, therefore, an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a highly successful IB World School in the north of the Netherlands.
